The hurricaine

Well like Matthew it turns out its not going to be that bad when landing here.  Downgraded to a 3.  I find the first hurricane of the season is a lot like the first snowfall in the northern states.  Big mumbo jumbo that turns out to be not much or that bad. The media should learn to ground themselves because they are crazy drama queens.  But if I was Walmart I'd be glad for the media and if I sold gasoline, it was better than Christmas for the stores around here. Anyway what sucks, is when it is real, no-one will believe it because of all the damn hype, crying wolf and here its nothing but rain.  When we get a real one no-one will believe them.

A new direction for the blog

I am going to start posting on here the things happening in our regular life and also some stores and current mythologies.  Also if you have a request I will research it and post it on here.  Like a hodge podge or potpourri news of the day. We have begotten "WHICHCRAFT" my new mobile store.  I will be making and selling custom or original jewelry, Ouija boards, runes, and still doing my tarot card readings.  Other crafts will be added such as candles, incense, musical tools and more.  I am looking forward to attending the craft shows and flea markets and selling my goods.  Eventually I am hoping to have my own web store. We have the tools for creating in metal, wood, and clay as well as wood burning.  Eventually I plan to add sewing and candle making.  The jewelry is all handmade and art truly pieces of art in and of themselves.  On occasion I will have paintings as well especially of the aliens everyone loves so much. My next article will be on the creative process and

HECATE: THE QUEEN OF WITCHES?

Although Hecate was not a goddess but a Titan Giant, she chose to assist Zeus with the overthrow of his father Chronos.  All the gods were impressed with her magic ability and she is rumored to be the fourth sister of the the three fates.  Hecate lived in Ydaggrisil or the world tree, supposedly cursed to turn from child to woman to elder woman all in a 24 hour period.  As the Queen of Magick, Zeus was jealous of her power and she was honored by the God above however she chose to stay in Hades with him and Persephone. "Name and origin [ edit ] The etymology of the name  Hecate  (Ἑκάτη,  Hekátē ) is not known. Suggested derivations include: From the Greek word for 'will'. [9] From  Ἑκατός   Hekatos , an obscure epithet of  Apollo . [8]  This has been translated as "she that operates from afar", "she that removes or drives off", [10]  "the far reaching one" or "the far-darter". [11] the name of the Egyptian goddess of childbir

Hades

I have been looking forward to introducing some of my favorite underworld myths and legends and gods.  Yes, my friend Hades has a nasty reputation but believe it or not his name simply means "the unseen one".  As I study the myths I find that Hades who took care of his people who were sick, dying and a plain old mess; I find him to be a scapegoat more than an evil god. In my opinion (if you know the background story) I do believe that Persephone wanted to be with Hades where she was the Queen of the Realm.  This is why Zeus allowed her to remain yoked to Hades.  Even the great Hecate (whom even Zeus was jealous of her magic) volunteered to remain in Hades.  And Hermes and Dionysius always come to visit.  Why?  Well I find it acceptable to just be yourself in Hades.  You can indulge pretty much any whim and be covered in secrecy.  Since everyone believes you to be dead. Sounds like something out of Harry Potter and the cloak of invisibility right?  Or Elijah granting Elish

Being like Hermes, I call Hermes the patron saint of single mothers

So I was sent a young woman who waitresses needing a place to live with her 4 year old son.  So today I get to be like Hermes and help her.  She works hard and would love your prayers for her success. Like me she loves to chat, is very friendly and was surprised I was a Taurus instead of an Aquarius.  I am hoping the roommate situation works out wonderfully for all of us.   And this is an idea to inspire the rest of you to be like Hermes, Prometheus, Perseus, Hercules, Zeus, Poseidon, or even Hades: who despite the bad stories, held the sick and unwanted and took care of them in his realm.   It is very rare to see an angel and I am witness to this truth I did see a white figure of an angel in my backyard last weekend.  It was kind of foggy, and that is a real blessing for this neighborhood.  The angel stood by the gate before ascending and yes it is real and true.  I do not do photos because it is something you must seek for yourself.  Just wanted to relate the story and sa

Perseus, and Being Human.....is it possible there are semi divine humans in the world today?

As I paint my daugter's room and think of the Ancient Greek heroes I have been inspired by Perseus, the son of Zeus and Danae.  So I am going to tell a basic story and let you do the rest of the research on your own.  The room has a medusa's head in an ocean themed room with coral rocks and a surf board lamp.  Its coming along quite well.  This is the same room in my home that ghost faces (pirates of all things) appeared in the window.  I will share the picture below.  Apparently they have some type of message to relate to my readers.   The symbol of Perseus is the Medusa's head, he was often told not to listen to the fates who spoke of doom, but to listen to the voice of his own conscience.  Perseus' earth father tried to prevent Danae from becoming pregnant under the same circumstances that Zeus suffered from Chronos.   This is the background story.  Unfortunately Zeus disguised came to Danae and impregnated her with Perseus.  The hidden son.  Another hero who was u

Athena, the goddess of wisdom, reason and purity

Image
Often this sister is referred to as the gray eyed goddess, she was recognized by certain greeks or hero as having eyes that were either green, blue or gray.  Her counsel to the Olympians was valuable, especially during times or war.  Known also as a warrior goddess, her strategic cunning was the best by far and she was the most resourceful of all the gods and goddesses. She was the patron of the city of Athens and taught them art, literature, strategy and weaving.  Her tree was the Olive tree, the bird an owl and her metal was palladium.   Athena was Zues' favorite child being sprung full grown in full battle armor from the head of Zeus.  The only child ever allowed to wield the thunderbolt and wear the aegis.  Often praised for her compassion and generosity she assisted Oddyseeus, Hercules, and Perseus in the pursuits and convinced other gods to be generous and fair with the heros. Her festival would be known as the Roman Quinquatras, which I will allow the reader to research

Dionysus

Image
nvocation of Dionysus (from Orphic hymns) [ edit ] "I call upon loud-roaring and revelling Dionysus, primeval, double-natured, thrice-born, Bacchic lord, wild, ineffable, secretive, two-horned and two-shaped. Ivy-covered, bull-faced, warlike, howling, pure, You take raw flesh, you have feasts, wrapt in foliage, decked with grape clusters. Resourceful Eubouleus, immortal god sired by Zeus When he mated with Persephone in unspeakable union. Hearken to my voice, O blessed one, and with your fair-girdled nymphs breathe on me in a spirit of perfect agape". "In intoxication, physical or spiritual, the initiate recovers an intensity of feeling which prudence had destroyed; he finds the world full of delight and beauty, and his imagination is suddenly :liberated from the prison of everyday preoccupations. The Bacchic ritual produced what was called 'enthusiasm', which means etymologically having the god enter the worshipper, who believed :that he became one with the g

Hermes, my personal favorite.

There are times I can write some really complex things about Hermes because he is my favorite of all the Olympians to study and learn from.  I associate him with the gift of language or communication, healing, alchemy, and shamanistic initiation and training.  In this article I am going to give you some background of his history in Greece and Egypt, then let you find your own path to this divine messenger of the Olympian Gods. Hermes was the second youngest of the Gods (Dionysus being the youngest) born to Zeus and Maia.  In his early days he was known for stealing Apollo's cattle and bringing judgement from Zeus because Apollo was angry.  Zeus never punished the son he called Hermes but instead made Hermes return the Cattle and become friends with his older brother Apollo.  The two brothers ended up helping each other as Apollo gained a lyre from Hermes and Hermes gained the famous Caducees from Apollo.  In the trial, Athena sided with Hermes, showing the wisdom of her objective

Chronos versus Kairos

Very rarely do you see time divided into two different categories or described so differently.  The greeks referred to father time as Chronos who devoured his children.  Little do we ever hear about the other side of time, Kairos.  A moment in time when the world breathes in and the fates can be changed, a moment or experience when your in time but out of time; the perfect event, an indescribable sense of perfection that comes in perfect timing. Could this be the unknown thing Paul mentioned to the Greeks, the unknown god or goddess?  Very rarely do we ever hear people speak of this Kairos.  Its not measurable, whereas Chronos (representing an order and time table) can be measured.  Again I ask do you serve Chronos or a timetable or does Kairos serve you?  Are you the master of time or is time your master?  I am sure that if you do what you love, time flees your grasp and you live in the moment, a purely joyful experience.  It is not chaos, because what is created is freely done in s

Father Zeus......what would he be like today?

The Greek gods were under the authority of Zeus.  The eldest brother who overthrew the old order and set up the younger generation, still thought of as prehistory.  Most of our myths deal with nature in a story form, not so much facts and dates like history but more of a classic form of ideas and abstracts that are still applicable today.  I will begin with a short history of Zeus and then go on to explain who and what Zeus is to me. He is the youngest son of Cronos (father time/eternity) and Rhea (goddess of the heavens) and was the one who overthrew time in the Titan war.  Some of the referrals to him are Dios (sky and thunder god or cloud gatherer), Dione (at the Oracle of Dodona/prophecy from trees and leaves), and Plato who refers to him as "cause of life always to all things/divine mind."  He was known in Egypt as Ammon Ra or the shining god.  His symbols included the thunderbolt, eagle, bull and Oak tree.  The fascinating fact of the Oak relation is that and oak attr

Polyamory; a different lifestyle choice

What human is a monogamous?  Many claim to be but if you divorce and marry 3-5 times aren't you in a sense loving more than one persona and therefore polyamorous? Just saying. It is possible that humans are not created to be monogamous or some are and some are not?  And why should we persecute anyone for their lifestyle choices. ? Shouldn't we celebrate and be given options?  Love comes in many forms, styles and ways and as Alexander the Great himself stated, "There are many ways to love."

Polytheism, what is it?

The term comes from the  Greek  πολύ  poly  ("many") and θεός  theos  ("god") and was first invented by the Jewish writer  Philo of Alexandria  to argue with the Greeks. When Christianity spread throughout Europe and the Mediterranean, non-Christians were just called  Gentiles  (a term originally used by Jews to refer to non-Jews) or pagans (locals) or by the clearly pejorative term idolaters (worshiping "false" gods). A central, main division in polytheism is between soft polytheism and hard polytheism. "Hard" polytheism is the belief that gods are distinct, separate, real divine beings, rather than psychological  archetypes  or personifications of natural forces. Hard polytheists reject the idea that "all gods are one god." "Hard" polytheists do not necessarily consider the gods of all cultures as being equally real, a theological position formally known as integrational polytheism or  omnitheism . This is contrasted wit

My new dog Poseidon

Image
So the beginning of the new year brings a new pet.  He is a german shepherd, yellow lab mix we named Poseidon.  He is ten months old and kind of hyper. We've found him to be very sweet and friendly especially to other dogs.  Whom he behaves very well with and he does well with the cats too.  My roommate Joe was building a fire in the fire pit and the dog was busy removing the wood and paper he kept putting into the fire pit, so he can be annoying. Renovations are coming nicely and beginning February 1 i will start posting profiles on the Greek gods after my polytheism post which is taking awhile for me to incubate and prepare.
