Dionysus
nvocation of Dionysus (from Orphic hymns)[edit]
- "I call upon loud-roaring and revelling Dionysus,
- primeval, double-natured, thrice-born, Bacchic lord,
- wild, ineffable, secretive, two-horned and two-shaped.
- Ivy-covered, bull-faced, warlike, howling, pure,
- You take raw flesh, you have feasts, wrapt in foliage, decked with grape clusters.
- Resourceful Eubouleus, immortal god sired by Zeus
- When he mated with Persephone in unspeakable union.
- Hearken to my voice, O blessed one,
- and with your fair-girdled nymphs breathe on me in a spirit of perfect agape".
- "In intoxication, physical or spiritual, the initiate recovers an intensity of feeling which prudence had destroyed; he finds the world full of delight and beauty, and his imagination is suddenly :liberated from the prison of everyday preoccupations. The Bacchic ritual produced what was called 'enthusiasm', which means etymologically having the god enter the worshipper, who believed :that he became one with the god".[8] (wikipedia)
- The god of the wine and vine also known as Bacchus by the Romans is our topic of discussion today. He was born of Zeus and a mortal woman
- and was referred to as the twice born god. One who was at first human and later became divine.
Dionysus represents that which is unrestrained and chaotic. A nature god.
The rituals were very close to what voodoo practices are today and no voodoo is not black magic all the time, thats a hollywood misconception. After drinking or ingesting a substance, the god possesses the initiate and is within or with the followers
It was used as a way to break down social barriers, inhibitions and old conditioning. And is still used in some shamanic rituals today.
We will be performing a ceremony invocation this weekend as spring has sprung and its the birth of planting season. When invoked
the high priest ingests the wine or substance and is able to bring the god within. At this time someone should be on hand to translate the messages
to the uninitiated. The language used is ancient. I personally have seen and attended the ceremonies and it reminds me of old
native american or tribal ceremonies and they are very beautiful. It is helpful for psycholgical healing and please don't practice these
rights without a trained priest or priestess or without learning and researching them for yourselves.
Good luck with your adventures on Dionysus and I hope you learn to enjoy him and his stories as much as i have.
